a passenger crapped and injured. the accident happened on warm springs road near wolf run in santa rosa last night. the chp says the driver, 24- year-old john holly, was going too fast and could not make the turn. he crossed the other lanes of traffic, hit a tree and took off running. the chp says this girlfriend was left -- his girlfriend was left trapped in the car and was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries. >>> dianne feinstein is pushing to keep a deadline for installing new technology on trains that she says would prevent crashes like the one in new york over the weekend that killed four people. senator feinstein introduced legislation back in 2008 that requires all trains to have what's called positive train control installed by december 31st, 2015. the technology automatically slows down or stops trains if engineers exexceed spi.es or are on a collision course with another train , seeds the speed limit or are -- exceed the speed limit or on a collision course with another train. >>> we're learning more about the funeral plans for nelson mandela and why he will be burie

. chilly 43 in santa rosa. 49 in san jose. 50 in san francisco. and 44 degrees in concord. in the afternoon, going to see a chance of showers developing later on today and into the evening hours then rain tonight and a chance of some mountain snow down to about 2500 feet locally and then looks like some warmer weather coming our way as we head in toward the middle of this next week but for now that trough of low pressure that is also bringing that stormy cold weather across country remains locked in place and going to stick around allowing for the throw drop into the bay area bringing with it some rain and some snow on our mountains and some snow in the high country too. up there they may see upwards of two feet of snow. 30 degrees mostly cloudy lake tahoe for today. 48 in sacramento. 52 degrees in the monterey bay. some rain in parts of the northern parts of the state as we are going to see this cold system begin to drop in. in fact, by commute time, even then we are looking at scattered showers looking up just to the north seeing a wintry mix here of sleet and slush. this is all going to
pictures of the nasty weather on their social media sites and sending them to us here at cnn. rosa florez has been collecting all of them. what are you seeing? >> you said it well, people are staying inside, so a lot of time snapping photos and submitting them to social media. but it is treacherous out there, one i-reporter submitted this photograph, overturned vehicles like this one in illinois have been a common occurrence in the states getting pounded by ice and snow. i-reporter jason aselen snapped this picture in michigan and also took some video that helps tell the story for him. he says that they're worried, they've been dealing with this for days. normally they see heavy snow first before the temperatures actually drop very low, which means water pipes have snow insulation he called it, but this time they saw about 6 inches of snow, then it rained which created a layer of ice and quite the mess he says. they're afraid that those water pipes will burst, and, of course, he said kids are forced to stay inside. no playing outside for those kiddos. >>> in areas of texas the chilling te
of the country are getting socked with snow again but first, let's go live to cnn's rosa flores in ridgefield, new jersey. how is it out there? >> reporter: well, you know, the temperatures are dropping, visibility is expected to be low and the national weather service just released an advisory with two to four inches expected. so you know exactly what that means. if you're going to be out on the roads, that means that you will need those low beams for low visibility, the windshield -- your windshield wipers for all the precipitation and you have to crank up the heat. i talked to the new jersey office of emergency management and they tell me this storm has moved from south to north, which means that all of the snow and ice and sleet they saw earlier in the day in the southern parts of the state has melted. that's one of the worries, folks, because temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, which means that a lot of those roads are going to have -- are going to be in treacherous condition. they tell us bridges, overpasses, untreated roads are expected to be very dangerous so they're ask

all day. not to mention creative work from the field crews there. rosa flores joins us now in richfield, naurnl. how are things now? >> reporter: john, slick, wet road conditions are what drivers are expecting. we talked to a driver who made a 180 on the interstate. and let's say that he's counting his blessings this morning. we have plight precipitation. and if you take a look, visibility is one of the things that emergency officials are tell us that they're worried about. clouds are low, visibility is low. they're worried about that. i just got off the phone with the new jersey department of transportation, and they say that they said 800 trucks out overnight plowing and spreading salt to make sure the roadways were as good as can be for drivers. i also talked to the emergency management. and they tell me that in new jersey, they saw almost a slit. now the storm was moving from south to north. and the conditions initially were really bad in the southern part of new jersey. now they're experiencing more flooding and ponding in that part of the state. so they're asking driv
forecast, see by 5:00 p.m. on friday, we'll start to get showers near santa rosa. as we advance this, no snow still yet for the bay area at 11:00 p.m. friday. mainly showers developing. as we head throughout saturday morning, some of the coldest temperatures are around. we'll have moisture left and could get flurries across the east bay and also the south bay. what you'll be able to see as we head throughout 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 in the morning hours owen saturday morning, we may get a little bit of pink close toward morgan hill and south san jose that will be continuing to track. the overall details, the best chance of snow from about 3:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on saturday morning for the east and south bay hills. highest accumulations above 2,500 feet. 1 to 3 inches there. remember, on those valley floors, going to be very slick with a few flurries that may actually touchdown at sea level. on that saturday forecast, stays on the cool side. oh by the way, if you're heading up to lake tahoe, 24 degrees and possibly 1 to 2 feet of snow expected as we head throughout this saturday. get ready. a
